U.S.-Cuban relations in the last month has taken a step that many thought would never happen. Delegates from the U.S. have arrived in Havana to begin talks that could see the end of the embargo put on Cuba in 1961. The BBC reports, “new travel and trade rules between the US and Cuba came into effect on Friday, also a part of this historic deal.” Even with the new travel and rules between the two nations, U.S. American tourism is still banned.
One important note to keep in mind is only the U.S. Congress can life the U.S. Embargo on Cuba. This means that even though relations have thawed, it will be Congress that makes the final choice.
