iAd is a division of Apple that specialized in marketing other companies and products on Apple devices. In other words, if someone wants to send an advertisement directly to an iPhone, they would do it through iAd. The sub-company has not seen much success in the U.S., but is now expanding its operations into Latin America. This spread of business shows the interconnectedness of U.S. corporations to Latin America on two levels. First, Apple obviously thinks there is a profit to be had in the lands of our southern neighbors. Secondly they are doing it through a proxy company called Internet Media Services (IMS). This is a Florida based company whose sole goal is to help business expand into Latin America. The very existence of IMS shows just how important these markets have become to U.S. businesses.
