On Monday, U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen blocked President Obama’s effort to expand a deportation relief program specifically targeting Latin Americans. This program that was intended to protect immigrants who were brought into the country as children from being deported was planned to take affect on Wednesday. The coalition against this program is made up mostly of conservative states and argues that it violates the “Take Care Clause” of the U.S. Constitution that limits the power of the president. President Obama is expected to appeal this ruling. If the two sides cannot reach an agreement by February 27th, the Department of Homeland Security could face a temporary shutdown with the suspension of its budget. This full article can be read here.
