OECS Worried Over Increased U.S. – Venezuelan Tensions

The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States has recently expressed concern over the tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela. As a group they are quoted as saying that recent actions from both sides have only served to “heighten tensions in the relations between those countries, and to undermine the peace and security of the region and the hemisphere as a whole.” The group announced that it holds to principles of democracy and that it values the rule of law and justice. It also released statements saying that OECS supports the sovereign rights of nations to decide their own fate, and to not be invaded by outside forces. The clause of not being invaded applies especially to cases where the nation is not independently involved.
