It is no secret that the United States has had their fair share of influence throughout Latin America over decades. The “backyard” mentality has ran the United States government’s foreign policy plans towards Latin America in a rather strong way. The spread of Democracy before everything else. For the last few years the intervention seemed to have slowed down, but here recently with more and more drug cartels and illegal immigration, there is a fear of United States military reign in Latin American countries again. This article basically said that they are already there. Using very simple excuses the writer seems to believe the United States military is there and has been there. Do I know enough about the military and boots on the ground to know whether it was true or not? No. Would it surprise me? No. I think the main point of the article is to show how the Latin American people still have the fear and uneasiness towards the United States, and they are passing this mindset to their children and their children’s children. I do not believe we have seen the last of United States military intervention in Latin American countries. The “backyard” mentality will never go away.
